How to have a Magical Christmas

Updated: Dec 24, 2024

Ah, December - the time of year that fills some with excitement and others with dread! Are you counting down the days with joy, or bracing yourself for the chaos?

Maybe a bit of both.

Christmas stirs the pot. For some, it’s about the pressure of finding the perfect gift. For others, it’s the weight of financial stress, the hecticness, the ache of missing a loved one, or the tension of family dynamics. Maybe it’s all the extra food, wine, and, let’s face it, drama! Then again, some hearts burst with the pure magic of seeing Christmas through a child’s eyes.

Whether you're a "ho-ho-ho" or a "bah-humbug," there’s no escaping the fact that Christmas brings it all up.

So instead of letting the usual Christmas weirdness get the better of you, maybe you could see this Christmas as an opportunity to shift something inside you!

Flip the Christmas Script

Last year, I was dreading Christmas after recently losing my mum and having no family to celebrate with. Determined not to be a misery guts, my partner and I went on a Pacific cruise instead.

On Christmas day, we attended the ship's church service, hoping that singing carols (very badly) might lift our spirits. We ended up sitting next to an elderly lady who was by herself. Throughout the service I noticing her wiping away tears, and my heart ached for her. I couldn't help myself, during the next hymn, I threw my arms around her in a big hug. I held her hand through the rest of the service, tears flowing from both of us.

Afterward, as others rushed to the buffet, we stayed behind to be with her. She told us that she’d recently lost her husband and he was meant to be on the cruise with her. We all cried together as she told her story.

That moment reminded me of the true spirit of Christmas - love, compassion and human connection.

The Corny Truth

I know, I know. It sounds cheesy, but love really is the answer to everything. When you choose love, you transform lives. Here’s some hot tips to help you achieve this during Christmas:

  • Love your quirky, imperfect family. Yes, they’ll probably drive you bananas, but they’re human - just like you.

  • Love the money you spend. Let go of the fear around money, this is the quickest way for money to find its way back to you.

  • Love the memories of those you miss. Grief is often weighed down with regrets. Instead of regretting, or feeling sad, celebrate their love and the good ways they shaped you.

  • Spending it alone? Create something uniquely special just for you.

  • And most importantly: Love yourself. All of you - the messy, stressed, brilliant, wonderful ever-evolving you.

Let Love Lead

So, my message for you this Christmas is simple: LOVE. Love the highs and the lows. Love the chaos and the quiet. Love the lessons and the laughter. Love one another, no matter who drives you crazy!

Love heals, empowers, and transforms.

When you choose love, you not only change your world - you change the world around you. So be brave and open your heart, embrace it all, and love every moment - because love truly is your greatest gift.

Happy Christmas, my friend  🎉  x
